Gamer-Con Publishes the 'Embedded Well-being' Guidebook
The Gamer-Con project is proud to announce the release of its main output: the 'Embedded Well-being' Guidebook, developed jointly by RÍSÍ (Iceland), BACKSLASH (Spain) and Unofficial Media & Training (Ireland). The Guidebook is a practical resource for youth workers who want to use gaming as a setting for social connection, reflection and well-being — built from the project's own gaming social events rather than from theory alone.
Across six chapters, it covers the reasoning behind "embedded well-being," findings from the project's Social Events, practical methods for planning sessions, and guidance on creating inclusive, supportive gaming spaces and facilitating open conversations safely. No gaming expertise is required to use it — the focus is on curiosity, attentiveness and creating the right conditions for connection.
"I have never really been one to share how I feel or talk about my mental state, but doing so with the group feels easier or more casual — there are no pressures or judgements."
— Gamer-Con participant
The Guidebook's recommendations are grounded in real results: across the project's Social Events, nearly 93% of participants reported feeling more socially connected, and around 80% felt more comfortable discussing their emotions and well-being as a direct result of taking part.
The Guidebook is available now as a free download, and will be shared with youth workers and practitioners through transfer meetings in Iceland, Spain and Ireland over the coming months.
Gamer-Con is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union (2024-3-IS01-KA210-YOU-000288127), led by Rafíþróttasamtök Íslands (Iceland) in partnership with BACKSLASH (Spain) and Unofficial Media and Training Limited (Ireland).
